Dr. John Voll of Georgetown University to Speak on "Late Ottoman Istanbul: The Cosmopolitan Capital"

On Thursday, February 2, 2012 from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. Dr. John Voll will speak at the Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University on “Late Ottoman Istanbul: The Cosmopolitan Capital.”
Dr. Voll is a professor of Islamic History and Associate Director of the Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding at Georgetown University. This lecture is presented by the Castellani Art Museum and Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies Program of Niagara University. The event is free and open to the public.
The lecture is presented in conjunction with a new Folk Arts exhibition at the Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University featuring paintings in miniature and on a grand scale, depicting scenes from Istanbul in the time of the Ottoman Empire. Haydar Hatemi: The Istanbul Painter is on display from January 8 – Mary, 27, 2012.
